Mercato Metropolitano Gluten Free Guide

Located South of the River near the Elephant & Castle roundabout, Mercato Metropolitano is London’s latest food market with a heavy focus on all things Italian and sustainability. When we visited there were some delectable gluten free options, as detailed below.

The market is open all week aside from Mondays. Opening times: Tuesday – Saturday 11am-11pm, Sunday 11am-10pm. Where: find it at 42 Newington Causeway, London, SE1 6DR.

Stalls with Gluten Free Options

Guasacaca Arepas

Arepas, the coeliac-favoured South American street food, are order of the day here. The cornmeal pockets are filled with goats cheese or with pulled beer, pico de gallo, cheese, avocado and pickles. They also sell Daura gluten free beer here.

Quintessentially Vietnamese

As the name suggests, this stall serves Vietnamese dishes and their pho and rice noodles were gluten free when we visited. Ask the staff about which options are suitable for coeliacs.

Rice and Gluten Free

Los Pibes Argentine Grill

Carnivore central, this stall serves up droolworthy steak with chimichurri and sweet potato puree.

Champagne & Fromage

Their meats and cheese selection is usually gluten free and you can take your own crackers along if you sensibly plan on having some carbs alongside your champagne ;).

The Italian Deli

Housed next to the market itself is an immense pop up Italian deli. Root around and you will discover gluten free gems nestled throughout, plus a dedicated gluten free section. From pasta and bread to biscuits and cakes, take a spare tote bag as you will be wanting to stock up on these goodies before you leave!
